The StarVista Crisis Center is comprised of a dedicated team of leadership, program staff, clinical interns, and amazing volunteers. Together, our compassionate team delivers high-impact crisis services to the community.

Crisis Center Leadership

  • Martha Cervantes, LMFT

    Director of Crisis Services

    Martha holds a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from The University of San Francisco. Martha is a bay area native who is passionate about bringing mental health services to communities that need it the most. Martha serves as co-chair of San Mateo County’s Suicide Prevention Committee and knows the importance of being able to provide bilingual support to the community and advocates at all levels of support. She has experience in working with youth, families, adults, school-based services, and psychiatric services. On her off days she enjoys going for long walks and hikes with her dog.

  • Taylor Coutts, ASW

    Crisis Center Director

    Taylor holds a Master’s of Social Work from California State University, San Bernardino. Taylor entered the non-profit sector in 2013, working in residential and on hotlines serving those impacted by sexual violence, intimate partner violence, crisis, and suicidality. She currently sits on county initiatives such as San Mateo County’s Death Advisory Team and Suicide Prevention Committee and serves as secretary on the 988 CA Executive Committee. Taylor comes to this work with lived experience with mental health challenges and is a proud kinship and foster parent as well as a military spouse.

  • Lauren Alves

    Crisis Center Manager

    Lauren is currently a second-year student at Samuel Merritt University pursing a Master’s of Social Work, with an emphasis in Behavioral Health. Her focus for the past five years has been in behavioral health case management and crisis intervention. Before her foray into the mental health field, Lauren worked with populations across the life span in Community Recreation. Lauren is a San Mateo County native and is honored to serve the community where she lives and works. On her off days, Lauren enjoys cooking, spending time with her family and going on adventures with her dog, Charlotte.

  • Kelsey Andrews

    Crisis Center Operations Supervisor

    Kelsey has been with the StarVista Crisis Center for nine years, first beginning as a youth peer counselor in 2016 before becoming a supervisor for teen crisis services. Shortly after, she began working on the hotline and was promoted to a program coordinator. She studied psychology at UC Santa Cruz and graduated in 2021. Kelsey enjoys working with crisis center staff to develop their counseling skills and encourage both professional and personal growth. In her spare time Kelsey enjoys writing postcards, reading books, spending time with her husband, and petting her cat.

  • Walter Ng

    Community Engagement Specialist

    With a passion for fostering connections and empowering communities, Walter brings a wealth of experience in building meaningful connections with the public to enhance community engagement strategies, develop partnerships, and lead outreach efforts that share our organization's mission. In his new role, Walter will focus on continuing to build a stronger and more resilient San Mateo community by expanding awareness of StarVista Crisis Center and fostering collaborative partnerships that empower all individuals to thrive. When not networking, tabling, or presenting, Walter enjoys being a #CheerDad at his daughter’s Cheer Competitions, family time at the Exploratorium or Zoo, and long walks at Ocean Beach.

  • Bianca Johnson

    Crisis Center Follow-Up Supervisor

    Bianca is a graduate student at Palo Alto University and is working on obtaining her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has worked in the mental health field since 2018 in various capacities and has been employed at StarVista since 2022. At this time, Bianca is working towards becoming a LPCC and LMFT so that she may eventually open her own practice to work with adults at different points in their mental health journey. In her free time, Bianca is relearning how to engage in appropriate self-care and is reintroducing herself to her old hobbies such as reading mystery and suspense fiction books, mindfully listening to music, baking, and watching/listening to true crime stories. goes here
